A Necessity for Security
Background checks are now extending its reach beyond the business sector and are now becoming a use in youth and athletic organizations.
A man who was a recent volunteer for his local youth organization was recently arrested for youth pornography. This incident has led parents to question just how safe their children are when spending days with their youth groups. These organizations, which are supposed to foster young people’s growth and development, are becoming potential targets for pedophiles and child molesters.
Now, youth organizations and athletic groups have taken measures to ensure parents that their children are in safe hands. Background checks are now being used to screen their volunteers. The government has given local organization free services for 80 people. Additional checks will cost them only $1.
Background checks have long been proven to be effective measures of preventing crimes and providing additional security for many people and businesses. Making it available to youth and athletic organizations has reinforced families and children’s security in a society where a lot can go wrong.
An Issue on Privacy
As issues of privacy are now being raised against background screening, volunteers need not worry on disclosing confidential information to their organizations since there are also measures to safeguard the results of the check. This procedure is merely done to protect the children and co-volunteers alike. The amount of time kids spend with their organizations and volunteers will just make it reasonable that extra measure for security should be taken.
Security for a Dollar?
The government has given youth organizations the “privilege” of background check services for less than a dollar. They usually utilize the “national database services” as their source of information.
The frightening fact: national databases are mere “dumpsites” for inaccurate and outdated information that the government chose not to get rid of.
Generally, the law requires database companies an assurance that the database they provide to their costumers are accurate and updated. They are also obligated to warn their costumers that the data they get may not always be accurate and should practice caution and discretion.
This makes you ask, are these credibility checks really credible enough? Are you willing to make an important decision based on faulty and inaccurate data? Would you entrust your security to someone for a dollar?
